Chiefs vs. Chargers

Today Eric, Colton and I went to the Chiefs. vs. Chargers game.  Now some of you may not know, but along with junk, my other passion is NFL Football.  Eric and I are huge Kansas City Chief fans.  You know the scream and cuss at the TV kind of fans.

Colton on the other hand LOVES the San Diego Chargers.  I am not even sure how he became a Chargers fan, but for the last two seasons he has cheered and rooted for the Chargers.  He will spend Sundays watching them play on T.V. and if we are are out watching the Chiefs' game somewhere else, he will ask the waitress to please put on the Chargers' game so he can watch that if they are running simultaneously.  Or he will have me check my cell phone to keep him up to date on the score.

Dillon, Colton, Eric and I went to the home opener a few weeks ago and we got to talking and decided it would be fun to take Colton to the Chiefs vs. Chargers game.  Dillon didn't mind too much since he isn't big on football and Matthew is more of a college football fan rather than an NFL fan, so we decided it would be just the three of us.

This morning we up and at em pretty early to get a head start on tailgating.  Eric and I wore our red and Colton wore his blue Charger shirt and had blue hair to show his team spirit!

He was a little worried at first because he was the only one wearing blue around us.  As the morning progressed, he got excited at he saw Charger fans walk by every so often.

We had amazing seats!!  We were on the 2nd row by the goal post.  We were able to see all the action happen up close and I think it made it more exciting for Colton, since the previous game were were in the nose bleed section.

There was lots of red, but there were some Charger fans nearby.  Everyone around him kept talking to him about the Chargers and every time he was asked who was going to win, he enthusiastically said "The Chargers!!"

It was an exciting game................

for Chargers fans.  Not so much for the Chiefs.  Several times he told me that its would be okay, that someone had to loose and he was just glad that it was the Chiefs and not the Chargers.  He even told me that it would be alright if I needed to cry.

Colton had a lot of fun high-fiving Charger fans (and mom because she was happy he was happy!) every time the Chargers scored.  And boy did they score!  And catch interceptions and and recover the ball when the Chiefs fumbled.  There was a lot to cheer about................

if you were a Chargers fan!

The final score was Chiefs 20 and Chargers 37,  That made for one happy Chargers fan!!  I am so thankful that we were able to create a wonderful memory for Colton - something that I hope he will always remember.  And his happiness and joy make this loss a much more bearable knowing how much fun he had today.

Tonight as he was getting ready for bed, I asked him if he had fun today and he said very enthusiastically  "Yes." Then I asked him what his favorite part of the day was and he said, "When the Chargers won!"

Weekend Finds

This weekend I went to a couple of pop-up flea markets - The Fleeting Flea in Overland Park and and the Harvest Hoedown Parking Lot Flea Mart at The Rusty Chandelier in Saint Joseph.  I came home with quite a haul!  I had been on a little junk drought as of late, but this weekend more than made up for it!  I found some really great white chippy pieces, including a ladder, screens, windows, cabinet doors and tin ceiling for some junk art.  I also ran into several friends at both shows - some selling and some shopping, including Claudia of Just Claudia Vintage Designs, the girls at Restoration Emporium, Debbie of Debbie's Do Overs, Kelly of Farmstead, and Tami of Vintage Connections!

This weekend I was on the hunt for some silver plate spoons and rhinestone jewelry and I had  success as well!  At the St. Joseph flea market I found tons of cool silver plate spoons in different shapes and sizes for spoon pendants.

Aren't these pretty?  I will be spending the next day or two pounding these nice and flat so they will be ready to stamp when I need them.

I also found these great rhinestone pieces at both fleas.  There is a great mix of vintage rhinestone buttons, shoe clips, brooches, a couple of shoe clips and a fur clip and a deco rhinestone bracelet.

I have to tell you, that bracelet is my favorite rhinestone piece that I found this weekend.  I found it at The Fleeting Flea.  These old deco bracelets are fun to dismantle and use in different jewelry pieces.

As you may have noticed, I am on a little spoon and jewelry kick.  The reason being is that I found out last week I was accepted into the Sugarplum Festival held at the Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in Saint Joseph, MO, November 8th, 9th and 10th.  This is a juried show that features local and regional artists and the museum is transformed into a holiday gift gallery full of amazing art, jewelry and gifts.  I am excited to be a part of this event.  I have so many ideas and about a month and a half to get it all done.

Little Treasures

I have been dealing with terrible allergies this season. And its safe to say this season is the worst EVER!! Every morning I wake up feeling terrible. Claritin isn't working so I am trying Allegra next. I really don't want to go to the doctor to get allergy shots, etc. so I am hoping it will do the trick. Please keep your fingers crossed for me please!

Because I feel so crummy in the morning its hard to get the motivation to do anything. There was an estate sale I wanted to go to this morning, but I waited until after lunch before heading out. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it hadn't been too picked over and I found these beauties below.

Little sparkly treasures.

It really doesn't take much to make me happy!

These are going to be made into jewelry.  A couple of necklaces, a couple of bracelets and a couple of cuffs (these are new and will be making their debut soon!).  The little medal in the right corner is an old hunting medal I believe.  Its hard to make out, but there is a deer on the front.  I think it will make a fun necklace as well.  I also scored this sweet mustard color vintage jewelry box with gorgeous velvet on the inside.  A few frames and a pretty mirror which I am going to update with some paint.

Tomorrow I have a few other sales I plan on heading out to and I must get their early because otherwise I know all the good stuff will be gone.

Tonight we are heading to our favorite BBQ restaurant for dinner.  Summit Hickory Pit BBQ is having a fundraiser for the No Kid Hungry organization so we will be dining out there and supporting a good cause.  Have a happy Thursday evening!!

Old vs. New

I really do prefer old over new. There are some supplies that I do purchase new, such as all my sterling silver findings, some crafting supplies including burlap or coffee filters for my flowers and wreaths and the charms that are part of my new build your own necklace line at Bottoms Up.  But when it comes to displays, I really do prefer to use vintage finds.

This past weekend at the Old Summit Antique Show, I found a box full of these old tin tarts with the perfect amount of age and patina.  I bought them with the purpose of using them to showcase all my different charms, but after playing around with them, I felt like the charms blended in with the tart tins and made it harder to see what the charms were.  I wanted something that would make the charms pop and for me white is the best color for that purpose.  Since I wouldn't even dream of painting the old tart tins and ruining their gorgeous patina, I knew it would be hard to find something shallow enough as well in multiples that I could use that is also old.

After a couple of days going to various antique malls and thrift stores I couldn't find anything.  So I decided that I would have to see what I could find new that might work.  I hit up Old Tyme Pottery, Home Goods, Marshalls, TJ Max, Walmart, Target and Big Lots and couldn't quite find what I was looking for.  This afternoon I was in Michael's and decided to try Pier One Imports since it was near by.

There I found these cute petite white shallow bowls that are fluted, just like those old tart tins.  And boy do those charms "pop" from that white background!  They were $1.00 each, so the price was right and I bought a bunch of them.  So while these aren't old, I think these will give me the look I was going for and I learned that sometimes its okay to compromise and use something new from time to time.

Old Summit Antique Show

Tomorrow I will be selling at the Old Summit Antique Show in Lee's Summit, Missouri at the John Knox Village Pavilion.  My friend Sandee runs this show and I always hear from people who say its the best antique show in the area.  There is a wide variety of vendors and price points, which makes it perfect for everyone!  Even Matthew Mead stopped by for the June show!  (And YES I got to meet him!!!!)

Today was set up day and of course it wouldn't be an antique show without a little drama.  I was asked a few days ago it I would mind moving my space to a different location, by the front door because another vendor wanted my spot.  I said yes because I really am pretty easy going.  The booth looks a little dark in the photo, but the light really does lighten it up.  I was annoyed though because I purchased two clamp lights and only one worked.  I will be returning the other one on Sunday.

Its a small booth, 10x10, but its perfect for a one day show.  I just fill up the truck as much as I can and take one load over.  I have a mix of vintage/antique and handmade and yes Christmas!  I wanted to get a jump on Christmas and since the next Old Summit show won't be until January, this was my chance to start.  At my booth at Bottoms Up, I won't be putting Christmas out until November, so its nice to start a little bit earlier this year.

I am always on the hunt for really cool old frames.  I love old wood frames and each one has such a unique patina to them.

I have a few more things I need to finish up for tomorrow.  I will be adding some small crafty bits in the morning to fill in a few empty spaces on the tables.  If you are in the KC Metro area, this show is definitely worth the stop.  And when you are done shopping you can head down to Greenwood, which is about a 10 minute drive and shop in Sandee's two antique malls there - Greenwood Mercantile and Millet and Company.

And since I had a few people asking, I wanted to update you all on Colton's eye.  He spent the last two days  wearing sunglasses and off of school because bright light hurts his eye and the school won't let him wear his sunglasses in class.  He says his eye feels a lot better, but is still a little sore and its still pretty red too.  But he is definitely on the mend and back to his usual ornery self.  Which in this case is a very good thing!  Have a happy weekend!!

Happenings

I know I promised a tutorial and I am still hoping to have it up soon. In the meantime, things have been crazy around here.  The worst of it though being that this morning I found myself at the ER at 2 a.m.  Last night when Colton was getting ready for bed, he poked himself in the eye with a toy and was very upset and crying.  We put some ice on it and then he fell asleep.  Fast forward to 1 a.m. and he was up and crying in hysterics about his eye hurting and not being able to see (open it) so we decided that since it was still hurting him so much 5 hours later that a trip to the ER was necessary.  There, they were able to numb his eye up long enough to be able to take a look at it.  They put some dye-drops in there and used a black light and were able to see a long scratch across his cornea all across the entire surface of his eye.  No wonder he was in pain!  With some Motrin, antibiotic ointment into his eye and a prescription to fill, we were on our way back home in less than an hour.  He spent the rest of the night sleeping next to me whimpering and crying in his sleep.  Its now 10 in the morning and he is still sleeping.  I always tell my boys that sleep is the best medicine you can give your body when it is sick.  Once he is up, we will be off to the pharmacy and then visit a friend, who I know will make him feel better just with her hugs.

Here are a few pictures of some spoon pendants I completed yesterday.  Some of these are finished and some need to be embellished.  The "I love you a bushel and a peck" is my most popular pendant right now.  The other two being "Wild at heart" and "You are my sunshine."

Tomorrow I will be setting up for a show and before that I will be making a trip to the airport and back since my husband is leaving for his Army Reserves weekend.  Then its a show on Saturday and football on Sunday and then back to the airport on Sunday night.  A busy weekend it will be!

Bottoms Up - September 2012 Booth Pictures

Hello everyone!  I know I have been a bad blogger the last month so I do apologize.  I have been hit with allergies and middle school drama.  I spent the last two days getting my booth ready for this month's sale.  I wanted to get a jump start on Halloween so I created this little Halloween corner.

She is wearing my much sought after and searched antique top hat.  No its not for sale - just decoration.  Usually the hat sits on my dresser in my bedroom, but I thought it would be perfect for a Halloween vignette.

I went to a big flea market last weekend and found these really cool stencils.  I have two sizes and they are just waiting to be put to use.

Lots of jewelry of course!  I am working on "expanding" my jewelry line a little bit and so I have lots of these spoon pendants as well as an entire table full of charms to create your own charm necklace.

I have decided that I don't like this door wall below.  I am going to be making some changes for October and I am hoping to get a little help from my husband.  (Hint!  Hint!)

I hope you all have a super weekend and I will be back next week with a fun, easy tutorial.
