The Ugly And Messy Truth

Okay.  I am going to warn you.  Some of the following pictures are not very pretty.  But in an effort to show my true voice on this blog I decided it was about time I came clean. (No pun intended.)

Are you ready?

....

....

Are you sure?

....

....

Don't say I didn't warn you!!!!

....

.... (Excuse me while I hang my head in shame)

Yes, these pictures are of my so-called studio.  Its definitely a diamond in the rough, isn't it?  I often pour over Where Women Create and all the gorgeous studio spaces that are featured.  Or drool over so many lovely talented artists' spaces on their blogs.  And then I go downstairs to this:

Sometimes I tell myself that I am going to take a week and really clean this up and make it my dream creating space, but then life gets in the way.  Or I get too busy with other projects with my antique booth and put it off.  Other times I look at it like a lost cause and will just dig around until I find what it is that I am looking for.  Which sometimes I can't find it or it takes so long I will just give up and in return just make this already jumbled mess, even messier (is this even possible?)

In general I am a cluttered person.  I think most artistic people are, or at least that is what I like to tell myself when art supplies are covering the coffee table or my husband it giving me a hard time about fabric, trim or paper all over the bedroom floor.   The truth is I am a very clean person, but at the same time I don't mind clutter.  Dirt drives me crazy and with three boys there is plenty of it, but for me everything doesn't necessarily have to have its place as long as I can find it or know where it is.

However, this mess that I call a studio isn't cluttered, its just one huge GIGANTIC mess.  My hope is that in the near future, although I am not sure when I will be able to share with you a beautiful creative space, where everything has its place and still manages to stay somewhat cluttered without becoming a big old mess.  That may be a month from now or it could be six months from now, but that is one of my goals to accomplish by the end of the year.

Now that being said, even int the jumbled mess, there are still treasures to be found.  Check them out!

Old book pages -

Beautiful Prima and paper flowers -

Vintage wallpaper in pretty pastel shades -

(This collage is made by one of my favorite people - Ellen of One Ripe Peach

A peek at my inspiration board -

Vintage and antique glass bottles -

Thanks for putting up with my mess!  Its definitely a work in progress and hopefully sooner that later I will have a beautiful update of studio to share.

Listen Sarah, it's nothing compared to the mess in my so-called studio that I'm supposed to be setting up :)

Oh, it's not that bad... you should see my studio! It's one of my goals to get mine organized as well. I don't mind clutter, but when I can't find something I need, I get so frustrated!

Oh it looks just like mine lol I see lots of beautiful potential in there! Look at all of the great stuff. When mine gets me crazy, I just start in one small space and do a little at a time. I figure it is my space and don't need to impress anyone but me;) Once it is all clean it's time to get creative again alas another mess;)

Oh yes, lots of pretties hiding in there! I think most people's studios look like this at least part of the time. When I had one it was often a giant mess. Everytime I cleaned it up it would only stay nice till I created again. It seems the only way I can make things is to dig through everything. lol. Good luck with this project. I know you can make a gorgeous studio!

Haha you should see my space! I'm hoping that when we move into our new home in June that I'll be able to nip it in the bud by getting a fresh start.

I see beautiful lovelies in that little mess. As I create my space gets messy, but I try to always make the time before I am done to tidy up... Not that everything is in it's home, but at least it is in nice piles!

Have a wonderful weekend!

Ummm...be blessed you have a studio...I have McKale's room...his crib and my hoarding! I have stuff all over the house. It's called being creative...you just can't help it. And I'm pretty sure everyone's studio looks like that more then they would like. We see all these pretty spaces in magazines, but they clean up for those photos...what does it look like the rest of the time?

I love it, I LOVE IT! One of my favorite post! lol I feel ya! I too drool over the pretty magazines, but in the end stash things. I even have a fork that is stamped with stazon ink! I swear I do. I don't have the heart to throw it out. Cause it is a funny truth to the mess I create when I am crafting. One day while crafting the poor vulnerable fork got in the way of my BIG TEXT stamp, and after that it was never the same. So hear hear to crafty clutter and messes.

No shame Sarah,
I have spaces like these too. I clean them up and a few months later they are cluttered again. With that said, you have some fabulous treasures in there!! I am dying over those vintage bottles! If you ever decide you don't need them any more, I'll give you my address! :)
Hope you have a lovely weekend.
Sincerely,
Melinda

Love your so called "mess". My spaces look like that quite frequently but sometimes that's where new ideas are born. Hold your head high...no shame in a pretty mess like yours. :)
Thanks for visiting my blog and following.

O, love the idea of using the brandy sniffer (I think that is the right term ;) for buttons! I always snatch these up when I find them and make terrariums, but it looks so pretty with the buttons!

I so agree: your mess is beautiful!

I can completely relate and to quote the reality tv star's dictionary (if there is one)...kudos to you for putting yourself out there :)

My husband and I laugh because every time we clean an area of our house (which doesn't happen all that often!) of course it is the first place we want to play i.e. trash out! Thanks for sharing - I wish I could be so brave as to share mine.

Hi Sarah! I am working on tackling my workspace this week ~ it has gotten quite out of control. I almost took my husband up on his offer to get a dumpster... SO overwhelming. I had to come back to see this post of yours. I guess it is all part of the creative process. Thanks for sharing your beautiful mess!
