The Secret Garden - Swap

I was browsing through my book shelf and came across a childhood favorite book I hadn't read in quite a while: The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett.

In this classic story, Mary is orphaned and sent to live with her uncle - who's heart is closed due to the death of this wife many years before. She is told the story of a lovely walled of garden that had not been tended to since her uncle's wife died. He locked the gate and buried the key, the garden never to be used again. Mary finds the key and upon entering the gate realizes that the garden isn't dead. She tends the garden with out her uncle knowing and slowly brings the garden back to life. At the same time she meets her cousin Colin who is sick - a cripple and prone to temper tantrums. He begins to heal and flourish just as the garden does and he eventually is able to walk. Mary's uncle returns and is drawn to the garden. He hears voices and is surprised to see his own son running in a race against Mary. Inside the garden he is able to heal his broken heart and he and the children all are finally able to find joy with each other.

The swap is called The Secret Garden. It will be a Springtime/renewal themed swap. Think vintage, beautiful roses and flowers, pastels, birds, gardens, old lace and rusty old skeleton keys. You can either use a basket or a embellished paper mache box and fill it with secret treasures. The goodies inside can be handmade, vintage, supplies, etc. You will then send out your package to your partner.

Sign ups will be until March 19th and your partner's info will be emailed to you by Sunday the 21st. You will then have until April the 9th to mail out your partner's goodies. Please email me at mysocalledjunkylife@yahoo.com if you would like to participate.

Please feel free to use this blog button on your blog to get the word out - it would be very much appreciated!
